In photography when I first got into shooting photo’s, my camera was set to creating my photo’s as JPEG’s(Joint Photographic Experts Group). It was easy to then take them from your camera and put them onto your computer. Then when you wanted to make a few changes to your photo’s to clean them up a bit, maybe make them sharper you would do that with some program like photoshop or gimp or picasa or whatever your favourite image editing program might be. The only problem is everytime you saved it after making any modifications, you lost some quality in the picture. Well with RAW that is not so, and what happens is after you make modifications, the original photo never gets changed. So you can go back and make changes again so really there is never any loss in quality of the original photo.
Well there is much more to it than that, you need a special program to edit those and some latest updates to read the latest Raw files from the newest cameras. So here is a great article that explains what RAW is and the pro’s can con’s of using RAW. To head on over to the article just click here.
